First, you have to make sure that someone is online. They have to be a gmail user. When the dot next to their name is green on the left side of your screen, just click on their name and a little screen will pop up. Type in the little box at the bottom of the screen, and then when you are done, press 'enter'. If you want to group chat, click on options, a button that is under the typing box, and then click on group chat. A little bar will appear at the top of the little chat screen, and all you have to do is type in the email address of someone else that is online and press enter. both people and you will be in a group chat. some tricks you can do: you can make a pig by typing in :(:) , you can cross out words by doing this: -word- , you can bold a word by doing this: *word* , and you can italicize your word by doing this: _word_ . Also, you can insert an emoticon by clicking on the little smiley face at the bottom right corner of the chat screen. when you press enter, the emoticon will turn into a smiley that usually moves.

You can easily chat in your browser by logging in to your gmail account. when your we in your gmail inbox, there you see the online links in left hand side. Just click on the contact. It will open a chatting box for you. There you can chat with your computer.
