You hold the bike up straight after having it run for about 3 minutes and then look at the window on the right side about 6 inches below the fill plug. Make sure it is between the lines.

There is a sight window on the engine case on the lowest part of the side of the engine below the oil fill cap. You have to get a friend to hold the bike as level as possible or you have to prop it...
On the lower left hand side of the motorcycle is a chrome plated plastic cover, this is right behind the clutch cable. You remove the three Allen screws with a wrench in your motorcycle tool kit....
My Clymer maintenance book said to use SAE10-W40 weight oil or a lighter viscosity oil (10W30) in cool climates and a heavier viscosity oil (20W50)in warm or hot climates.
