Check the 91 Legend for a bad knock sensor. Check the timing for proper setting, and check for any vacuum leaks.

The most two most common causes are either the belt being loose or the belt wearing to the point that it slips. Check for these two problems first.
take it to your mechanic so he can run a diagnostic.
Remove valve cover, then remove the side time belt cover. Check timing belt tension. If there's too much slack, loosen timing belt tensioner, put pressure against side of tensioner with long screwdriver, then tighten the tensioner bolt.
Check your starter it may be grounded when hot.
It means the ECU has detected a problem with the emissions system.
check your coolant levels and radiator if they are ok make sure it doesn't have a blown head gasket which are very common with these years of the acura legend..
