In APA formatting, start your bibliography on a new page titled "References" at the end of your paper. List your sources alphabetically by author's last name. Each reference should include the author's name, publication year, title of the work, publication information, and retrieval information for online sources. Make sure to use a hanging indent for each entry.

To cite in APA a journal article, follow as shown below using related links for guidance. In Text: Cite Author(s) and year; e.g. According to Jones & Smith (2009), the experiment showed the .......... for the solution; or The the experiment showed the .......... for the solution (Jones & Smith, 2009). If direct quote in text, need page number also; "The the experiment showed the .......... for the solution" (Jones & Smith, 2009, p. 237). On Reference Page, use hanging format & follow for online retrieval (all I have used have doi and retrieved online): Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Date of publication). Title of article. Title of Journal, volume number (issue number if applicable), pages if applicable. doi:XXXXX/XXXXX Jones, A. B., & Smith, C. D. (2009). Test for Solution. Journal of Experiments, 2 (3), 235 - 239. doi:10.33401/00023003456

If the DOI of the journal is available then:

Author(s) surname, initial using & before the last author where there are multiple authors. (Year of publication). Title of journal article. Journal name italicised, Volume italicised (Issue or number), Page number(s). doi: xx xxx xxxxx

Example:

Ugboma, H.A.A, & Onyearugha, C.N. (2013). Prevalence and associated factors as seen at a tertiary health facility. Nigerian Journal of Clinical Practice, 16(2), 184-7. doi:10.4103/1119-3077.110145.

If the DOI of the journal is not available and the journal was retrieved online then:

Author(s) surname, initial using & before the last author where there are multiple authors. (Year of publication). Title of journal article. Journal name italicised, Volume italicised (Issue or number), Page number(s).

Example:

Tucker, J. & McGuire, W. (2004). ABC of Preterm Birth: Epidemiology of Preterm Birth. British Medical Journal, 329(7467), 675-8.

The tricky thing about APA referencing is the punctuation. For the authors its surname COMMA initials FULLSTOP (each initial separated by a fullstop) and then a comma before the next author if there is more than one. There is also a comma before the ampersand (&) in front of the last author.

How do you use footnote?

In the college I went to footnotes were added into what you were writing but were separated by quote marks according to APA formatting. Then when the sentence was done there would be an acknowledgement of the footnote by using parentheses to bracket off the Author's last name, etc according to APA rules then ending this with another parentheses. The last page would be a Bibliography page where the books used for these footnotes would be listed (again according to APA formatting). In high school foot notes were listed at the bottom of the page. Now they are worked into the actual writing. I like the newer way better. It flows better.
