How do you clean dog urine out of a carpet? |
Answer
The urine stain can be affected by the health of the dog, but it general you need to blot up as much urine as you can by hand with paper toweling or a disposable rag. (Do not step on the blotting cloth as some of the urine will bleed to your shoe and be tracked on the carpet.) After blotting, saturate the carpet with a quality liquid microbial product designed to eliminate urine odors and stains. Urine wicks out to a larger spot that you can see on the surface, so you need to treat an area 8 to 10 inches beyond the stain all around the stain.
Brush in to help it penetrate if your carpet has one of the factory applied coatings. Cover the area with a damp cloth and allow it to dry. Reapply if you need to.
There are a number of pretty good microbials out there, but the best we have found is OdorZyme available at www.OdorZyme.com. It is a bit pricey, but it works.
Old stains are a bit more difficult, but we have still had success following the steps above two times. If some stain still remains, we have used an Amway product, Carpet Brite powder, to remove the remaining residues of the stain.
Answer
OdorZyme does work great but if you find it is pricey, contact the manufacturer directly and see about ordering it direct or for possible distribution of the product at your local pet store(s). They are coming out with OdorZyme+ and OdorZyme NS which is GREAT for those with environmental sensitivities and environmental allergies. 1-800-833-2334 ext119
Buy the Bissell SpotBot...I got it for christmas....I have 5 and a 6 month old puppies and it works wonders!
Option # 3
A product called Kids n Pets also works very well. I've tried it on cat urine, mouse infestations, and am about to try it on a very doggy car! It is very easy, and leaves no perfume-y smell either which is much easier on my allergies. It can be found at places like Kmart or Target in the household cleaner section, or at http://www.kidsnpetsbrand.com/
Option # 4
All you have to do is get a shampooer and go over it with the shampooer many times if that doesn't work, then try this product called odorzyme i have a 13liter of cats it works great!!
Option # 5
Liberal use of a special enzymatic cleaner.

I have found the most useful information about removing dog urine stains from carpeting. I blot up the escess then pour a mixture of half water and half vinegar on the spot. Cover it with a paper towel and it is gone the next day. You might have to do itmore than once but trust me this works and it's cheap!!!
