Make sure there is no liquid in the iron, pop it into the freezer, then when it's cold, chip it off.

A good trick to try is place the iron in a shallow pan of ice water, let it stand so all the plastic is soaking in the ice. Remove the iron when the plastic seems to have frozen, then chip or scrape the plastic slowly away with a tool that won't hurt the surface of the iron. You might also try the sharp blade of a knife or a razor blade scraper at a very low angle in an attempt to scarpe away the material. Work slowly and deliberately, and return the iron to the ice if the chipping or scraping gets difficult.

Additionally, if your iron is not Teflon coated or ceramic but is polished stainless steel or aluminum, a bit of elbow grease and some fine steel wool used dry on the surface will finish the job and leave the bottom clean as a whistle.

I was about to throw my iron out after it fell from the ironing board, bounced and landed against some dry cleaning I had just returned from the cleaners. The thin plastic bag adhered to the irons surface immediately. This is how I found this site. I was searching for a way to clean the plastic from the iron. After letting the iron thoroughly cool I got some wooden toothpicks and tongue depressers; the type woman use for waxing. I then let the iron warm up to the lowest setting. Standing at the kitchen sink with the cool water running, I let the iron warm up till it seamed warm enough and then let the water run across the surface. The plastic cool quickly and I was able to rub it off the surface with the tongue depresser. I used the toothpick for the dimples in the surface. This took me at least an hour or more to complete. Do NOT heat the iron up to the highest setting. My iron seemed to work best at the synthetics setting. Block the drain of the sink so the small plastic particles do not go down the drain. I have a screen mesh which covers my drain so it came in handy for this excersice. Be sure the steam setting is off. Rub with the toothpicks and depresser. If you where glasses, they will probably get steamed once and awhile. Be patient and expect to be there for an hour or more. The plastic does not peal off in one sheet. The wood picks up some of it and the rest is brittle and flakes in to the sink. I concentrated on small areas and worked my way up from the bottom. And needless to say, be careful. I did not burn myself once, but the dangers are abvious. Good luck

How do you remove melted plastic from a dishwasher's heating element?

You can remove melted plastic from a dishwasher's heating element by first unplugging it from the power outlet and removing all of the dishes and racks. Leave the dishwasher door open to allow the coils to cool down. Place some ice in a plastic zipper bag and put it on top of the cooled plastic and leave for about 30 minutes. Remove the ice and using a plastic scraper, scrape the hardened plastic off the coils. Soak a cloth in an acetone-based nail polish remover and leave it on the element for 5 minutes. Use this cloth to scrub the remaining plastic off of the element then wipe the coils with a clean, damp cloth. Remove any remaining nail polish remover residue with a cloth that has been dipped in a solution of warm water and dish soap, then rinse the coils with water.

How do you remove melted plastic from the oven?

One time I used a sheet of paper and an iron. Lay the sheet of paper over it and take a hot iron and put over the paper. It will melt the plastic and it will stick to the paper. I am not sure about melted plastic, but I've removed dried wax from fabric by placing a brown paper bag (usually a lunch bag) on top of the wax (or plastic in your case) and running a medium heat iron over the bag. The wax came off, so maybe it will work for melted plastic.

How do you get melted plastic off a shirt?

It is history. The paper bag and iron is for wax. If you did that first, you just melted more plastic into the fabric. It will not come out. If you had froze it first, it might have popped off, or it may have already been into the fabric.

Can ammonia clean melted plastic off surfaces?

Ammonia is not a cleaner we'd choose to remove plastic from surfaces. It (ammonia) won't dissolve or "melt" the plastic, so it is ineffective in removing melted plastic from surfaces.
