For example if your friend has threatened suicide, you need to get help for your friend immediately, even if that means contacting your friend's family, or even calling the police. If that is not the issue, then the laws are different in different places. Your best option is to contact your friend's physician, or your own, immediately and ask for guidance. You could call local hospitals or mental health centers and ask if emergency mental health assessments are offered there. They can send you to the right hospital. When you find the right place, get your friend there and they will take it from there.
