This will depend on the type of substrate your attaching to. They should all be attached using a mechanical fasteners. For brick or masonry you could use a lag and lead slave. Wood to wood framing just a regular wood lag. Make sure to hit the studs on wood construction or the rim. Pre-drill the holes using the correct lag drill size so as not to split the wood members.

If you live in a frost zone, ensure that your support posts are anchored in concrete below the frost line depth that can be expected. In such areas, never attach a deck to a house and support the posts on concrete pads such as deck blocks. An alternate method is to locate post holes within 2 feet of the house and cantilever the frame towards the house, then you will not have to attach it at all and can use a floating deck (even in a frost zone) if you want to.
