How do you control noise pollution in our locality?

Answer:
The impact of noise is slow but it can have adverse effects. To control the noise levels we first have to make people aware of its impact. In work place areas such as factories, 85 dB(A) noise is permitted for 8 hours, but from an environmental point of view there should be a 75 dB(A) limit during daylight hours and a 70 dB(A) limit for night time. To maintain these norms we have to change our attitude and working style, and not generate unnecessary noise, like horn blowing, use of loudspeakers etc. The source generating the noise should be isolated and restricted so that others will not be effected.
To reduce the noise in society, growing trees along road sides and boundaries would act as a good noise absorber. If there is some permanent source it can be remedied by acoustic treatment.
The first step is awareness. People should be educated and made aware of the causes and effects of noise pollution, then the solution will become easier.
