How do you convert square feet into linear yards?

Answer:

You want to convert an area into a length or distance.

Square feet measures AREA and linear yards measure LENGTH.

Area could never be converted to length.

You could convert sq. foot to sq. yard:
1 square foot = .1111111111111 square yard.

You could convert foot to yard:
1 foot = .33333333333333 yard.

Yards are good, but "linear" yards are unnecessary.

Carpet and flooring manufacuters use the following formula:

Number of linear ft. times .731 then they round to the next higher yard.

So, 28 linear ft. tinmes 0.731 = 20.47 Sq. Yds. rounded up to the nearest yard is 21.

I just ordered some flooring and that's how they told me to convert it.
