To crochet using your fingers only, use the same procedure as when using a hook, but just use your fingers instead. You will end up using your forefinger as a "hook" holding the parts of the stitch on your finger, and "hooking" your finger to "draw through" the material to make the stitch.

I would hazard that the "best" stitches to make using a finger crochet technique would be the shorter stitches--slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet. I think that with taller stitches, you might begin to not have room on your forefinger to "hold" the loops necessary to make the stitches.

Look at the attached video link and see finger crocheting single crochet stitches is being done.

No, you can only crochet with a crochet hook. Answer Crochet is done with crochet hooks (they come in many sizes) not knitting neeldes. Can you crochet with a broken hook?

You can crochet a chain stitch with your fingers, but doing other stitches will be impossible unless your work is very very loose. It is technically possible to crochet with a knitting needle, but it's not really worth all the fiddling and frustration.Other contributors have said:Yes! You can. It is actually easier to crochet without the hook, in my opinion. Just make a slip knot on your finger and pull the long string through the loop, and pull on the long string to make the loop smaller.not for me! you weave the yarn through your finger when your using the hook, and you can't do that when the knots on your finger. plus the hook has to twist, but theres no hook on your finger. although one time i crocheted a whole scarf with my fingers.

How old is crocheting?

It is not exactly known when people began to crochet. There are no known examples of crochet prior to 1800--whereas there are knitting samples (a pair of knitted cotton socks) which dates to around 1000 c.e.The earliest reference to crochet was in a book published in 1812: The Memoirs of a Highland Lady by Elizabeth Grant. The first written crochet pattern was in a Dutch magazine dated 1824.Some people have hypothesized that crochet might have had an earlier manifestation, by someone using their crooked finger as a "hook" so there would not be archeological evidence of hooks around. However, there are no known crochet items found which date prior to 1800.
