As hard as it is to accept, don't expect him to change his lifestyle because he is in a relationship with you. He is the only person who can make the decision to change or alter his schedule. Whatever the activity or job is that takes up most of his time, it is going to still come first with him as long as he wants it to.
If you do want to date him, you either have to be content with the time you can spend with him (and do keep your own interests and friends); if you have let him know how you feel and he still is unwilling to come to a compromise, he simply is not compatible with you.
