In order to give you a good answer we would have to know a little more about what this 8 year old is complaining about. Could you please explain a little further. Such as, is this child complaining about eating his meals, going to bed, or generally complaining. We need to decide if this child is simply spoiled or needs to see a doctor for a good physical (tummy aches, generally not feel well, lots of sinus problems or colds, clingy to the parents, afraid to play with other children his/her own age.)
