I have a design degree so I'll answer this one. Because you are in a smaller space, function is the word. Stay away from furniture that doesn't serve a purpose. Make the space as simple as possible. NO CLUTTER. Also, if you are buying furniture, make sure it is the same scale as the room. I wouldn't buy a huge sectional sofa, instead I may pick out a loveseat or three seater sofa that isn't too heavy looking. When choosing colors, pick lighter shades of your favorite colors. It will give the room alittle more of a spacy feeling. Try not to hang heavy curtains on the windows, instead maybe some attractive shades that are light in color. Look through some magazines and get some ideas. Just because a space is small, doesn't mean that it can't be exquisite.
