How do you design a logo?

You can design animated logo in Photoshop using Animations panel (Window > Animations). Animated design can be saved as .gif format. Search Help or other resources for more detailed information's.

First off you need to get to know the client. Learn about the company and things they do. After you learn enough about the company and know what they are about you can start sketching out ideas and get feedback from the client. make a few mach ups of a couple good designs and get critique from the client, revise the best and polish the one that they like.

1. Do a lot of research. Make sure that you know your competition and make sure you have an original idea.

2. If you are not creatively inclined, consult with a professional graphic designer that has a track record of logo design and branding.

3. Expect to pay for a professional logo. The standard fees that I apply are a $500 base fee plus $100 per employee. So expect to pay at least $600 for your logo design. This should include the final files in multiple formats such as EPS, JPG and GIF.

4. You should have multiple versions for different applications -- Black & White, 4-Color (full color) and Web.

5. Make sure that your logo looks good at various sizes as well. You want to make sure that you can read the image and/or text in the smallest application of the logo. For example, is it legible on a business card.

6. Most important... make sure you love it! It should reflect your business and your image. Don't settle, period. This is the image you will have to live with for a long time. You don't want to have to change it a few years down the road. This is your brand, so make sure it works for you.

If you're not a graphic designer, don't try to do it yourself. It will just make you look unprofessional, which will cost you money. Get a professional designer to do it for you.

Secondly, if you insist on doing it yourself, get a template and work from there.

You must have Adobe Illustrator (or coreldraw ) though to edit the template.

Have an idea of what you want, design a logo and use Pro Designer.

EDIT: Yeah, I'd agree with all of the above but I think I should add some stuff. You need the appropriate programmes. E.g Photoshop CS3. Paint, Paint.Net, PicNik etc. are just not acceptable programmes to use if you want to make it look good. Plan on how you want it to look, then fiddle around and see if you can do it which most likely, you can you just need to know how. But if you haven't got a clue - I seriously would try and get some course training.
