If it has a quicklink/master link you can pop that open to pull the chain off the bike.
If it hasn't I'd recommend a chain breaker tool.
If you're not planning to reuse the chain you can cut it with whatever you like. You'll still need a chain breaker tool to size the new chian though.

There's no practical need beside excessive boredom to pull a chain apart bit by bit.
