PING is a component of various operating systems, used to -- as stated above -- test connectivity. By itself, the PING command doesn't tell you a lot of interesting things you might want to know. As such, many people have written software in a wide ranges of languages with a wide range of APIs that add features and capabilities to the vernerable PING command. Most incorporate features of TRACERT (called traceroute -- another integral component of most operating systems), as well as geographic mapping, graphing over time, multiple route testing, history, and many other features.
Some of these are free; some are not.
