There are several different types of yoga. My suggestion would be to start out doing a Hatha Yoga which is a slow paced stretching class with simple breathing exercises. It's a good place to learn basic poses, relaxation techniques, and become comfortable with yoga. Once you learn the basic poses, you will feel more comfortable doing them on your own.
