How do you do you get a voice acting career?

Answer:
A career in voice acting requires, yes a voice and yes, acting skills! Everyone has a unique voice, but not everyone can read well, understand copy, articulate and communicate. And not everyone knows how to run a business. Make no mistake about it - your voice acting career will be a business.
Advice?
First, learn all you can about the field. There are so many resources available to you, from VoiceoverXtra (a free newsletter), to YouTube videos of VO talents and coaches at work, to websites like edgestudio.com where you have access to terrific articles, FAQs, scripts, and audio about the voiceover field. Also, many places offer introductory classes for basic skills and business info. Take one, then decide if you want this.
Second, get GOOD at this. Unless you're already trained in a very similar field like film acting, you will need some coaching. When you have the necessary skills at your fingertips, make your demo. Do not make the demo until you have the skills!
Third, start networking and building your contact/client list. Get a website. Practice every day. Maybe you'll have an agent someday, usually not until you've worked a lot already. Stay connected to others in the VO biz. It's a great community!
Overall - love the work! It's great fun - and a great challenge - to take written words from tutorials to animation and bring them to life. If you don't love the work, having a "great voice" is not enough. Good luck!
