At the bottom front edge, there should be a hose connection. Attach a garden hose to it and then open the valve. Because sediment can collect at the bottom of the heater, they can drain slow sometimes, but it should drain eventually. Turn the heater off before draining.

Is water pressure at the drain of water heater tank same as rest of house?

Unless the heater is relatively new, the drain is going to be slow and in some cases not work at all. Rust and sediment collect in the tank and plug the drain.

What size water heater for 1200sqfeet?

It is not the square feet that determines the size water heater you need it is the demand. The more people who live in the home the higher the demand on the water heater to produce enough hot water. 1-3 people requires a 40 gallon water heater 4-6 people requires a 50 gallon water heater Of course you can make do with a 40 gallon water heater with a family of 4 or more but you will at times run out of hot water. Even if there are only 1 or 2 living in the home do not buy a 30 gallon water heater. You save very little money and may run out of hot water. But at least a 40 gallon.

Even when house water turned off why will water still drain from the hot water tank?

Reason for question: Plumber left valve open and flooded house The hot water (heater) tank is fed from a 'header tank'; normally in the loft space but can be combined with the main heater tank (fortic). The header is filled from the water main. Unless the header is drained or its outlet is closed off, it will drain down through the open valve of the hot water (heater) tank.

How do you protect water heater drain pan?

I'm not sure what you mean. A drain pan protects the area below the water heater from ruin if the water heater begins to leak. You can prevent major damage by putting a water alarm ($12) in the pan to be warned if the heater begins to leak.

How to Keep Your Water Heater Clean?

By Andreina Urdaneta A clean water heater will heat and maintain water better and last longer. Once a year, flush your water heater, and in extreme hard water areas, at least twice a year. If you feel up to the challenge, here are some tips to help you in a basic cleaning. 1 Turn the water heater and the cold water supply to the water heater off. 2 Hook a high-quality garden hose to the drain valve, and place the other end in an area where hot water will not cause damage. 5. Open the drain valve. 6. Disconnect the cold water pipe on the top of the water heater. This step will let air into the water heater so it will drain. When the water heater is empty, close the drain. 8. Pour tile cleaner into the cold water, leave for a couple of hours and drain the detergent out of the tank. 10. Reconnect the cold water supply to the water heater. Open the cold water valve and let the water heater flush for a couple minutes. 12. Close the drain valve and open the hot water faucet nearest to the tank, and let the water heater fill. 13. When water starts to come out of that faucet, reopen the drain and let the water heater continue to rinse. After all the air is out of the water heater, turn it back on. Take care of your water heater, and it will take care of you. If you keep ignoring the task, your water heater may just leave you in the cold.

yes, but you have to open the relief valve or one of the water connections to allow air to enter the water heater otherwise it will become air-locked and not drain very well.
