The first rule of drawing is to look at what you want to draw. While this might sound dumb, you have to identify the masses involved in order to put them on paper. Take a look at the couch and see what the couch looks like first.
Next, draw the largest lines. In a couch the first line would be the base or seat of the couch. Next would come the back of the couch and then the arms. Now that you have a basic kind of rectangle, put cushions on it. The cushion is an oval affair, so draw ovals where the cushions are supposed to be.
If you are working with a pencil, make sure you have an eraser because you will see some lines that you put into the drawing that you want to take out. Keep working with the shapes until the drawing looks like the couch.
