How to dual boot Win 98 and XP:

1. Create two partitions in your hard drive.
2. First install Windows 98.
3. After this, insert the XP CD and click on install.
4. You will get two options -- upgrade or new installation. Select new installation.
5. Click on advanced tab in the next window.
6. In that tab, choose "I will specify the drive" then go ahead.
7. Your system will reboot and then it will ask to format the drive in which you want to install XP. By doing this, you will get both OS running on the same machine.

Updated For Those Who Wish To Run Windows 98SE along with Windows XP on Hard Disks Greater than 40GB.
Since Windows98 only supports a Maximum 40GB Disk Size.

To create a partition, first, boot your computer with a Windows XP CD.
  • Create Partitions desirably.
  • Next, Format the C Drive (or your desirable drive) using the FAT32 File-system.
  • After the Setup has formatted it, it will start copying the files of windows XP in it. Hard Reset on that point (Press the small button beside the power button of your Computer Tower)
  • Again, boot with Windows XP, and this time, format the D Drive (or your second desirable drive) with FAT32 (Not NTFS as if you will format with NTFS, Your Windows 98 will not be able to access the files that you store in windows XP)
  • Again, after it will finish the format, it will start to copy the files. Here, Restart the computer again.
  • Now install Windows 98 normally.

And now follow the above procedures!
