You can delete entire conversations in your inbox by:
1. Holding one finger down on the message box until it flashes blue.
2. Sliding your finger left or right
3. Pushing delete
There is no ability to delete individual messages from that conversation on an iPhone.
In the Messages app, select a conversation. At the upper-right corner, there should be a button called "Edit". Tap that button. Then, tap all the messages you wish to delete. When you are done selecting, hit the "Delete" button at the bottom-left corner.
