How do you quickly close the current application window?

Depends on what operating system you are using. In Windows, Alt+F4 will close a window right away. Ctrl+Q will sometimes quit an application, which is better than closing the window itself. Ctrl+W will often close a sub-window in a multiple-document interface, or things like a single tab in Firefox.

What do the minimize maximize and close buttons do?

The minimize button reduces a window to an icon. Clicking the icon restores it. The maximize button increases the size of a window to fill the whole screen or (if an MDI (Multiple Document Interface) window, to fill the parent window's client area). Clicking it again restores the window. The close button closes the window and initiates the document close sequence.

What is the difference between minimizing and closing a window?

When u minimize a window i makes it smaller so in a way its like u have put it to 1 side Minimizing a window keeps it open and let processes that are using the window continue to run. You can restore a minimized window by clicking on its icon a the bottom of the screen. Closing a window "kills" it and all processes that are using it. It you are finished with a program you should close its window.
