1995 and later model vehicles have the OBDII system and a scan tool is needed to retrieve the trouble codes. Scan tools are available to buy starying at about $70 or you can have the computer scanned free at some auto parts stores (AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts, O'Reilley's, etc.).
you can take it to auto zone or advance auto parts stores, and they will put the scanner on it for free.
Have a look here; http://autorepair.about.com/od/obdcodedatabase/The_Exhaustive_Database_of_OBDI_and_OBDII_Engine_Codes.htm
the headlight flasher is located under the dash next to the OBD plug in (that plug where they check engine codes) on the drivers side..
check engine light codes can be checked at a local advanced auto or auto parts store. it needs to be hooked to a diag machine. if you're looking for the plug, it -should- be under the lip before your pedals, beneath the steering wheel.
It has set a trouble code. Have the codes pulled at a autozone or oreilly auto parts.
A problem with the emission system. Need to have trouble codes checked.
There are dozens of codes. Be specific as to what code you are getting.
If you have a bad O2 sensor the check engine light would come on and set a code directing you to which one is bad. A code reading tool would be required to read the codes.
yes, and what codes are you asking about "check engine" or anti lock radio codes?
Hey Lisa==Go to Auto Zone and they will read the codes for free. This will give you an indication as to what is causing it. GoodluckJoe
The code number is P0440 not 1744 see: http://www.obd-codes.com/forums/2669-obd-codes-2001-chevy-cavalier-p0440-evap-code-check-enginehelp.html
the check engine light has to be cleared with the scanner, that wipes out the codes and resets. Answered by Littlestown Lube & Brake Littlestown, PA 717-359-5022 light will still be on. Black tape on dash light, best solution i can find.
