You can ask to see their DD-214, although a false document may be presented. As military service records are a matter of public record, you have the option to send a Freedom of Information Act Request to the Department of Veterans Affairs, although this may take a couple months. For further information on how to go about with this process, you can contact the webmasters of the POW Network website (see related link at the bottom), who are very well versed in this process, as they do it all the time to out frauds and impostors.
im trying to find out if someone has been discharged from the navy
no, but from his DD Form 214, which all military receive at time of leaving service. a DD form 214 will show type of discharge given...............
you will have to contact an education center to find out.
honestly with a felony you cant do much these days. If you received an honorable discharge, then your good, but if not then you cannot receive veteran benefits with other than honorable.
Turning in a wallet when you find it is the honorable thing to do.
On their DD-214, look at Block 26. It will say "Separation Code", and a three letter code will be typed in there. See the related link at the bottom for what those separation codes mean.
It depends how far off in paperwork was performed on you. If you are already in the guard, you will get either a med. discharge or a less than honorable for lying under your enlistment oath.
Im trying to find out the same!!

A General or " General discharge under honorable conditions" may preclude participation in the GI bill, you will need to contact the department of Veterans affairs for a decision on your particular case.
