I recently had a flurry of "remote system attempting to access..."messages. I chose to "Always Block" each time. I checked for Norton updates. The access messages continued. I looked for window updates, I was current, and the messages continued. I continued to "Always Block". I downloaded Ad-aware from Lavasoft. After deep scanning 4 times in rapid succession it turned up tracking cookies each scan, which I quarantined. My "remote system" messages are gone...so far. Possibly I had the same problem, they came so fast my computer was almost unusable. I found, on another forum, what I consider a workable solution.
Right mouse click the Norton icon on your taskbar. Click on 'Open Norton internet Security'. Under "Personal Firewall" goto "Configure" then under "Firewall" tab goto "Custom Level" and uncheck "Alert when unused ports are accessed".
Since I've done this I get no more "remote system attempting to access" messages. I also make the assumption that, even though I don't see it, the firewall is doing it's thing quietly in the background.
