To get the percentage multiply cost by the percentage you want . For example, if have something that 30 dollars and you have 15 percent off of it, multiply 30 by .15 and that will give the amount of money the percentage is. This should be two dollars so then 30 minus 2 is 28 and that's your final answer. Your percentage off was 2 dollars

to find 25% of 40 multiply 40 by 25/100

40x25/100 = 1000/100 = 10

So you multiply the number you want to find the percent of by the percent over 100.

What is 15 percent of 500?

500x15/100 = 7500/100 = 75

You can know any other numbers by using the formula.

Or, for those of you who are not necessarily mathematically minded, start by breaking down the word percent. "per" means "out of" and "cent" means 100, so percent means out of one hundred.

Imagine that anything can be broken down into 100 parts, if we are taking one percent of something we are taking one of the 100 parts. If we take 25 percent of something we are taking 25 of the 100 parts.

Using the same example as above,

25% of 40

40 = 100 parts (or 100%)

4 = 10 parts (or 10% - we have divided both sides by 10)

0.4 = 1 part (or 1%)

From one percent we can work out any percentage we need using multiplication. To get 25% I simply multiply by 25.

0.4 * 25 = 10

10 = 25 parts

So, 25% of 40 is 10.

first you divide the new price by the original price then you subtract that answer from 1 or 1.00 then you take the difference and multiply it by 100 and put the percent sign in place
