From the circumference y, you can find the diameter by dividing by pi. Knowing the diameter, you can calculate the area by either dividing the diameter by 2, squaring it and multiplying by pi, or by squaring the diameter, dividing by 4 and then multiplying by pi (they are mathematically equivalent). The end result is that you can calculate the area of a circle with circumference y from the formula:

Area = π(y/2π)² = y²/4π
