The # 1 plug is the plug at the front of the engine left side on a transverse mounted engine. Front drivers side on a longitude mounted engine. Remove the spark plugs, pull the coil wire, and turn the engine over until the #1 plug is at it highest point on the compression stroke. You are now at TDC.
