First thing that I do is to clean out the oil trap located on the back side of the engine. You have to jack the car up in the air to acess the trap. I use a 13 mm wrench and a 13mm socket 4 inch extension with standard ratchet. Remove the two hoses at the top of the trap then push the trap up to get the lower hose off. In the oil trap one hose has a small opening close to the edge of the housing in it make sure that it is clean drill bit works good.All the rubber hoses have to be in good shape meaning flexable not soft or hard.Be sure to check the routing of the hoses make notes if you have to.The part numbers are on the hoses themself so if you need one or all you have the number. In the valve cover where the two hoses attach to the plastic nipple. Make sure that the small hose connection is free of obstruction again drill bit to clean.The small hose also has a one way valve that lets the vacuum flow towards the throttle body then shuts off when the engine goes under boost, positive pressure.This check valve is located in the small rubber hose.This must work correct so you do not put positive pressure back in to the engine. I also remove the valve cover and make sure that the passages in the valve cover are free and clean. I use a peice of vacuum hose and connect it to the peice of metal hose that looks like a J on the inside of the valve cover and blow through it using you lung power. If not use a propane torch to clean, gotta have a compressor and air line to blow through the opening where the nipple goes into the valve cover. Be careful not to blow the hot oil on you.SAAB has updated this system know to most as a PCV positive crankcase ventilation.Not sure if their is a recall on this or not contact you local SAAB dealer have your full vin number for them to check.
If the J hose is plugged inside the valve cover I also remove the oil pan and clean it out.
