When TV's keep shutting down, they're usually going into `self protection mode' and do so to prevent any further damage from happening when there's something wrong. You didn't specify if it was an analog or digital tv so I can't help with much more info. If it's a projection set that has a projection lamp in it, chances are good the lamp's reaching the end of its life or the ballast is going bad. There are several other causes as well.
