How do you fix a hole you burned in your living-room chair?

[Edit]

How big a hole? If it is an upholstery hole, then perhaps you can match the fabric of the chair this way.

If it is an overstuffed chair, there are frequently "skirts" around the leg of the chair. Go to the back of the chair and lift the "skirt". You will find an insert around the leg. This can be clipped for a small amount of material to match the chair without damaging the appearance of the upholstery. Carefully trim away the burn area, stuff the burn with cotton, then place the patch in the hole. BTW, buy some bonding material from the sewing shop, and keep it..it's useful. Place the bonding material around the edges of the burn, taking care not to let it come into view but making sure that it is all around the patch. Then heat with an iron according to manufacturer's directions. You have a repair for the chair.

If this isn't satisfactory, then you might investigate going retro with arm covers and a head rest in complementary colors. Crocheted lace, shiny material, or denim chic are all good choices...and will cover the hole.
