To fix a paper jam, you must first locate where in the printer the paper jam is, if your printer has multiple paper trays.
* When you have located the jam, turn the printer off. * If you can see the paper, remove it slowly and carefully with both hands by pulling the edge out in the direction it would naturally be released. * Open the printer door to look for any stuck paper. * If there are bits of paper still inside the printer, take a piece of heavy-weight paper or cover stock and push it through the printer in the same path. This will push out any bits of paper. * Turn the printer back on. Repeat the steps if the printer still alerts you to a paper jam.

You need a tweezer, a paper clip straightened out as much as possible, a flashlight. Use the straightened paper clip to fish out the paper, pulling the paper out by wiggling it rather than pulling. Sometimes pull against the shredder to the front of you instead of towards you. It takes time and patience but is a lot cheaper than buying a new one.

∙ 14y agoYou can often fix a jam in a paper shredder by yourself, but it all depends on how bad the jam is. The first option is to put the paper shredder in reverse and see if that fixes the problem. If that doesn't work, unplug the shredder and remove the shredder head. See if you can remove the jammed paper from under the shredder head. Be careful as the shredder blades may be sharp. If this still doesn't work, try softening up the paper with some shredder oil. When the paper gets soft, from the oil, it will often work itself free.
If the shredder isn't working at all, you may have simply blown a fuse. Most modern paper shredders have fuses. Try replacing the fuse and see if this helps. If none of these suggestions work, you may have to contact a service technician.
ABC Office has a technician that would at least let you know what's involved to repair a serious paper jam. If the cost of fixing the paper shredder is too much, you may just have to replace the shredder. Good luck!

∙ 9y agoA jammed printer can typically be fixed by opening the front door and removing all the paper fragments. Paper can get lodge between the rollers which is more difficult to clear.
