* this is easy... first take the inside door panel off the door, and then take off the plastic insulation. Unbolt the old window from the regulator, slip the old window out of the door. you then place the new window in the door bolting it back onto the regulator, and there you have it a new window installed. Just make sure your weather striping is in the right place, you dont want water getting in. (If you have trouble getting the old window out, you can smash it. However, it gets messy and if you dont know how to take the old window out, how do you plane getting the new one in?) * You also have to remove the vent window to slip out the old window and replace the new one.

On the 98 Grand Cherokee you have to remove 4 screws I believe. 3 are easy to spot they maybe coverd with round plastic caps to match the interior of the Jeep. Just pop offthe caps with a screwdriver and you will expose the screw. The last one is inside the door release (handle), if you look behind the handle you will see the out line of a small square panel. Remove the panel and you will find another screw. Then slowly pull the interior panel off. There are still some plastic pegs holding the panel to the door put they will pop off. Next need to disconnect the wires from the back. Then the panel will be free and in your hand. Next you need to peel back the plastic layers to expose the inside of the door. I have not had the pleasure of the window motor, so can't help you there. pls see... http://www.faqfarm.com/Q/What_is_wrong_when_the_front_passenger_power_window_motor_sounds_like_it%27s_going_to_work_but_then_stops_and_the_window_will_not_move_on_a_1999_Jeep_Grand_Cherokee

There has been chronic problem's with the Jeep GC Regulators for all model years. Most likeley, the plastic part which secures the cables as the motor moves the window up/down is cracked, and typicaly the window just falls into the door. Unfortunately, you just can't buy the plastic part to fix! Chysler charges $400 for the Regulator and Motor, which is outrageous. Repair is about the same at the dealership. Here is what I did:

1) There is a gentlemean on EBAY who is helping alot of us out. Go to EBAY, input your make/model year and the specific window on the vehicle in questions.

2) He is selling refurbished regulators for $70(including shipping), and provided a 1yr warranty if you send your broken regulator/motor back to him.

3)HOW TO REMOVE YOUR BROKEN REGULATOR:

-Pop off the door panel by unscrewing the screw in the armrest and behind the inside door handle(look for any other screw but this was all on my 2001. Starting at the bottom of the door, use a flat head screw driver to pop off the panel(this is attached by press fit clips all around the door and they just pop on and off; don't worry if you break one, they are easy to find at the auto parts store or sometimes Home Depot.)

-There will be a power cord attached to the door panel which you just need to disconnect.

-Now just remove the black rubber barrier, pulling the 'tar' back slowly.

-Next, unscrew and disconnect your speaker.

-Next, on the bottom right there is the actual motor which needs to be disconnected; 3 screws and a power attachment.

-Next, the vertical rail of the regulator is attached by 3 screws(2 at the top, 1 at the bottom most likely)

-Next, there are two copper U-Clips that hold the window to the regulator assembly, you can pull these out with a flat head screw driver.

-That is it!! Pull through the openings in the frame; You most likely will see one end of the cable has pulled all the way into the motor, while the other end is attached to the plastic part I described earlier.

-When you receive the Regulator/Motor, reverse directions as described about
