There is a breather plate inside that has a small hole, if I remember correctly that little hole needs to be near the bottom. The plate can be installed upside down if your not careful then oil leaks.
I changed the valve cover gasket which included the gasket, gromets, and the spark plug tube seals for $13.99 at advance auto parts. It was leaking 1 qt a week and now not a drop.

Try some JB Weld or similar product. If the crack is where the oil plug/cap goes, you want to ensure that you do not "weld" the plug/cap to the threads = in this case you want to "extend" the drain...
