I wouldn't recommend using a crowbar because it does put dents on the body, but I am desperate.
New HeadlineYou have to remove the inside door panels. follow the door mechanism from the front to the back (You won't be able to see it at the back) What I did was to cut a small hole (1-2 inches) near the back of the door to be able to see the rod. I found that were the rod connects to an "L" shaped part the "L" was bent outwards (toward the outside of the door). By bending it back towards the inside of the door I was able to get the door open. How do you open sliding door on a 1996 Ford Aerostar Van that will not disengage?
A person will typically need to check the fuse and rails on the sliding door of a 96 Ford Aerostar fan to see why the door drops after opening. If the door is out of its tracks or the bolts have become lose, it will often drop when operated.
you have to remove the inside panels to get at the latch to open
Many times if a door does not latch completely. If its the sliding door, could be the bottom door rollers are worn allowing the door to move.
The sliding door on a Honda Odyssey can become stuck when objects are jammed in the rails or the motor fails. The doors are designed to close on their own which causes problems when the electrical components fail.
I have the same problem! I've seen this question several times and a user named "Sspencer69" gave this answer: "If it is stuck shut try this. I have a 1991 Aerostar that had the same problem. You have to remove the inside door panels. follow the door mechanism from the front to the back (You won't be able to see it at the back) What I did was to cut a small hole (1-2 inches) near the back of the door to be able to see the rod. If from the inside perhaps the child proof latch is engaged. Hope This Helps.
The first thing a person should do when they experience their Dodge Caravan sliding door stuck, is to make sure there isn't something in the track. If this isn't the case, a mechanic will be able to fix it for you.
Check the plunger switch in the door. Sounds like it is shorted closed.
Owner's manual. What does the red light say? Any red light always means Stop, Danger, etc, so don't ignore it.
Try disconnecting your battery and reconnecting it this should reset the door.
Took it for body work, mechanic left doors open while repaired them. Ran the battery dead. Now drivers side manual sliding door won't open.
