A good rule is to try and "label" the card during format so that it will be very easily recognized for future reference. A simple rename will do the trick as well. Keeping different components organized helps to ensure that the files are accesible and once you move them from the card to your CPU they are less likely to be mistaken (the filename will not have your sd cards "personal name you added") The format should only take a few moments and if you see that the progress stops for several minutes this usually means it is time for a new card.
