For garden planting, soak the peas for 24 hours in water, this will cause the pea to start swelling and initiate germination. The seeds must be planted immediately afterwards as germination cannot be halted at this point.
Sow the seed individually into separate holes 40 - 50 cm apart. If the seed is old plant 2 peas to a hole and thin one out if both germinate. Planting holes need to be about 5 to 7.5 mm deep and the seed needs to be covered lightly for germination.
Germination is normally within 3 to 5 days after sowing.
