You can get a copy of a California birth certificate by sending payment with an application to the California Office of Vital Records. An authorized copy can only be obtained by the individual in question, the parents of the individual, or certain people entitled by law to it. To get an authorized copy, you must have the application notarized. Otherwise, you can only obtain an informational copy.
You can also obtain a copy of a California birth certificate by contacting the County Recorder's Office in the county in which the birth occurred.

The processing time for a birth record from 1969 to present is approximately 4 weeks, and the processing time for a birth record from 1905 to 1968 it is approximately 6 weeks. If you need it faster, you should submit your request to the County Recorder's Office in the county where the birth took place.
