There are several steps to obtaining a Bar Card in Lafayette, LA. They include:
1. A payment (cash or check) is made at City/Parish Hall located at 705 W. University Ave. in the utilities collection part of the building and a receipt will be given.
2. Class B bar card is $15 and can only be used at class B permitted business (for off-premise consumption business such as convenient stores, package liquor). The Class A Bar Card is $30 and can be used at ANY location in Lafayette (including Bars, Restaurants, Convenient Stores, etc). The Class A Bar Card applicant must pass a criminal history background check.
3. You must bring a valid ID and the payment receipt that will be given to you at City/Parish Hall to the Police Department's Alcohol & Noise Control office located at 2100 Jefferson Street, Suite 102-A to process for the bar card. You will fill-out an application, have your picture taken and if applying for a Class A Bar Card you will be fingerprinted.
4. You will be given a 30 day temporary Bar Card that can be used to work immediately. To obtain your current Bar Card (good for 2 years) you must attend an approved State of Louisiana Responsible Vendor class. When you apply for a City of Lafayette Bar Card this class is included at no additional cost. You will be given class dates when you apply. NOTE: A CITY OF LAFAYETTE BAR CARD MUST BE APPLIED FOR PRIOR TO SELLING ANY ALCOHOL. THIS IS IN OUR CITY ORDINANCE.
