Ask people you know and trust for referrals for car dealers.
Decide what make and model of vehicle you are interested in and research the Blue Book value based on the condition, age, etc. of the vehicle.
Decide exactly what you can afford or what you want to spend and stick to that amount regardless of a the sales pitch.
Have any vehicle you are considering buying checked by a qualified mechanic that you know to be honest, either with personal dealings or through a trusted relative or friend.
Check with the BBB to see if the dealership has any complaints from other buyers.
If you do not like the offer or don't feel "good" about the person you are dealing with, simply walk away.
No one, regardless of their gender can be taken advantage of unless they are a willing participant.
