How do you get chickenpox?

Answer:
Chickenpox is a contagious disease. It is caused by the herpes virus Varicella zoster and normally affects children age 4 to 10 who have no natural immunity to it. The spread of the virus is normally by direct contact with individuals who have the disease, or who are carriers. The most common symptom to treat is itching of the rash.

In pregnant women, newborns, and non-immune adults, the disease has the potential for more severe complications. Previous childhood exposure to chickenpox can lead to a recurrence as "shingles" in adults.
