Fly! You can fly from Don Maung, the old airport, with Thai Airways or Nok Air. You can also fly from Bankok's new airport Suvanabuhmi, prounouced Sue Van A Boom, with Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways and Air Asia. Fares are very reasonable and bookable online with most of the airlines mentioned. The airport in Phuket is a way from a lot of the tourist areas so you will need some sort of transportation when you arrive. Bus services are limited and taxis are a lot more expensive than Bangkok. There are a few meter taxis to be found if you turn right when you first get outside and walk to the end. There are very regular flights.. Note that if you are arriving from an international departure point you will only arrive at the new Suvanabhumi airport, the old airport no longer has any international arrivals/departures. The new airport is very busy and it can take a while getting through Immigration. The airlines say to allow three hours connection time. The 'budget Airlines' will not re-book you for free onto another flight if you miss a connection. People like Thai and Bangkok Airways will if when you book you mention that you are 'connecting.

By road, many buses (Both Aircon and Fan) travel regularly between Bangkok and Phuket. The roads are not great in parts and it takes about 12 hours.

You may want to inquire at the new airport's transportation centre for details. They offer many packages from Bangkok to Phuket.
