im not completley sure but ive been told that you catch it from animals and/or backteria.

i did a science fair project on leprosy and found out that it iscaused by a bacteria called Mycobacterium leprae and is spread by airborne droplets such as when someone coughs or sneezes. hope that answers your question!=)
