There was a time when I would have said one earns praise, but the world is a fickle place and even if you do something wonderful for others often good people slip through the cracks and they never get praise for a good deed. In our hearts we should be willing to do good things for mankind without expecting a pat on the back, but be fulfilled within ourselves that we did make a difference in some manner. Praise comes to some people that don't deserve it (to put it nicely it's called ... kissing butt) and if some people who do good things that are noticeable will receive praise from a group of their peers. The greatest of people often do great things and never receive praise, but the inner being feels so wonderful they are wise enough to be happy within themselves and don't need the recognition.
