How do you repel bats?

I'm assuming that the bats are in a home or other undesirable location. The only EPA approved way to repel bats is with naphthalene (moth balls or crystals.) It will drive them away temporarily but they'll return when the crystals have evaporated. It will give you time to seal up any entry points, though.

Cover up all their holes, or try to spray some pesticide or something, if you don't want to do that, covering up all the holes and giving where ever you have the bats a serious cleaning is the best way to go.

Try a bat box or bat house. You can buy one or build your own. If you want to build one you can directions on line or in some books. But remember that bats are wild animals, they are fun to look at but never touch one you could get a disease.

Seal the opening a half an hour after dark. If you can't possibly seal of small opening without remodeling the house, try shining a light at their roosting are by installing a bright light. Another trick is to hang mothballs in porous bags (another use for old stretchy stockings) to ward them off.

Bats are very beneficial due to their appetite for mosquitoes and other pests, but it is understandable that you would rather not share your home with them, and you certainly don't want to share your home with their guano. Bats like sleeping in places that are tight, warm and dry. Any solution to your problem would fall into one of two categories: Make your house eaves less attractive (or inaccessable) to them, or provide for them a more attractive alternative. Call animal control to come pick up a bat. Most healthy bats will not be separate from the colony they belong to. Therefore, it is not safe for you to handle the bat.
