Unless you have about �700 to spare to buy a midge machine, the only other solutions I have heard of is burning citronella candles inside and outside your home and if you want to prevent them biting you when you are out, use Avon's Skin So Soft Dry Oil Spray.

It was used on the set of Braveheart movie and was found to be the most effective deterrant.
