Ridding the Lawn of Weeds
- I have tried many, many different things, and what worked best for me was something called "Weed and Feed" that you spread on your lawn. It will help your grass to grow thick and green, while ridding it of weeds.
- Some people/communities are opposed to using "chemicals" on their lawn, so this is something you may want to explore to decide what is right for you. Talk to your local home store or lawn care store for more guidance.
- Overseed, overseed and overseed! Spring and Fall. It can be as easy as throwing handfulls of seed on your grass, or, if your soil is hard, rake in some topsoil with the seeds. Thick grass growth will inhibit weeds thus making the need for weed killer non-existant. When buying your grass seed, try to avoid bulk or unmarked packaging because some of the "budget" varieties actually contain weed seeds! The best brand in my experience is Scotts.
- Don't forget to fertilize! This helps the lawn thicken, which will help choke out the weeds.
- Have a look at my page on removing moss and keeping it healthy. The secret to keeping weeds away is to keep the lawn healthy.
