How do you remove a burn mark from the base of a steam iron if candle wax didn't work?

Place a few layers of newspaper on the ironing board. Pour salt very generously over the newspaper. "Iron" the salted newspaper, constantly moving the iron around on the salt. Depending on the type of burned stuff on your iron, you may have to try lower or higher heat, more salt, and may have to do this several times before the sticky burned stuff is gone from the bottom of your iron.
